About
I have kept dogs for the last 25 years but they have always been medium to large dogs who I needed to plan my life around. After some time with a quiet home, I decided that this time around, I wanted a smaller dog who I could take with me when I was out and about.
After much research I decided that a Chihuahua would be the perfect breed and stumbled across the British Chihuahua Rescue page. One dog stood out and that was Otis with his smiley profile picture. He sounded like the perfect dog for me and so after a few days, I decided to make an application.
I was contacted to talk about my application before having a home visit booked in with one of the team. At the home visit, it was very clear that the BCR are passionate about the breed and work hard to ensure that all dogs are understood and go to the right home for them. I also met my first Chihuahua and was genuinely surprised at how small they are. I discovered that they are just as able as any other dog and have big personalities.
I was then contacted by Otis's fosterer who spoke to me about my lifestyle and how I would balance work and having a dog. After having looked after Otis for a few months, his fosterer was able to tell me all about his personality and felt that we would be a perfect match.
A few weeks later, I went to pick Otis up. He was very quiet to begin with, but once home, he was rolling on the grass in the sunshine.
It has been three months since Otis moved in. In that time he has travelled the length and breadth of the country with me. He has regular slots at daycare where he gets to hang out with his doting dogsitter and his doggy friends and where. next week, he'll be meeting Santa Paws for a photo and a little gift (because he's been a very good boy)
He has lots of playmates and humans who love to have him around for a visit and he has blossomed into the cheekiest, most independant-spirited and cuddliest little dog.
The application process was very smooth from start to finish and it was clear how much these dogs mean to the team organising adoptions. I have been telling anyone who will listen how great British Chihuahua Rescue is.
